Mission

 

Roger Williams Day Care Center has the philosophy that a child secure within him/herself will thrive. With this guiding principle in mind, this program has the following five main objectives for its children: 

 

1. Foster a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment

2. Instill pride in each child with the purpose of establishing a positive sense of self-worth

3. Promote self-confidence and independence in each child

4. Provide a flexible curriculum to meet each child's individual needs

5. Establish rapport with parents, children, and staff



Located on the Southside of Providence, Roger Williams Day Care Center (RWDCC) offers families the opportunity to access year-round, quality education and care for children 6 weeks to 13 years. Through meaningful learning experiences, relationships, and developmentally appropriate practices, we provide a creative, nurturing, safe and healthy learning environment for the well-being of children, families, and the community we serve.

RWDCC opened in 1973 as a day care center to serve the housing project known as Roger Williams Homes with funds from the Model Cities Program. The day care's administration was placed in the hands of the Roger Williams Tenants' Association and staff positions have been filled, since then and to the extent possible, with residents from the surrounding neighborhoods.

 

We are proudly a 3-star Brighstars Rated program, with the intent of reach a rating of 4-stars in the next year! 

Since its founding over 42 years ago, RWDCC has grown from a small child care program for 7 children, to a quality driven and multifacted early learning program meeting the needs of Providence's inntercity youth and their families. Currently, we serve nearly 120 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 13 years and have always served a diverse population. 

 

Our goal is to promote curiosity and a hunger to learn in each child that enters our doors, no matter their background. Our students are confident, have a strong sense of self and of communtiy, and have the opportunity to learn and grow in a loving, safe environment at Roger Williams Day Care Center.
